Purpose:
to evaluate clinical outcomes and optical parameters like distance, intermediate and near vision, contrast sensitivity, defocus curve, and posterior capsule opacification (PCO) formation of trifocal intraocular lens (IOL).
Methods:
in this prospective case series study thirty eyes (13 bilateral and 4unilateral) with mean from 17 patients with mean age of 51.6 ; range 41 to 62 years after complete pre-operation examination underwent cataract surgery with implantation of the trifocal IOL model AT Lisa Tri 839. Distance, intermediate (between 66 and 80cm) and near (between 33 and 40cm) vision ; uncorrected near vision satisfaction, contrast sensitivity, defocus curve in photopic condition and PCO formation were observed during a two years follow up.
Results:
one month post operatively an improvement was observed in all visual parameters (P<0.05), except for corrected intermediate visual acuity. Statistically significant changes were observed in uncorrected and corrected distance and near visual acuities (all P < 0.05) and in uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (P <0.05). Range of clear vision in defocus curve was from +1 to -3 diopter. There were no complains of dysphotopsia and no PCO formation. Photopic contrast sensitivity showed good binocularity at all spatial frequencies.
Conclusion:
the trifocal IOL provided visual restoration after cataract surgery during two years follow up with good levels of visual function in both groups (bilateral and unilateral surgeries) with uncorrected near vision satisfaction in all patients during a two years follow up.
