Purpose:
To evaluate outcomes of intrastromal synthetic collagen implantation in patients with advanced keratoconus.
Methods:
Four eyes with advanced keratoconus entered the study. After creation of an intrastromal corneal pocket at the depth of 250 microns using femtosecond laser; a 250 micron thick synthetic collagen tissue was entered into the stromal pocket. Visual acuity, refraction, corneal topography and aberrometry were evaluated before operation and in each postoperative visit during six month follow-up period.
Results:
Maximum keratometry, HOA and coma reduced after the operation.
Uncorrected and corrected vision improved postoperatively.
Conclusion:
Intrastromal synthetic collagen implantation seems an acceptable treatment option in patients with advanced keratoconus.
