Purpose:
To evaluate vascular density and flow around optic nerve head by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in healthy subjects
Methods:
Both eyes of healthy subjects without any systemic or ocular disorders were included in this descriptive study. Angiodisc imaging by using OCTA was performed for all eyes. The vascular density and flow of optic nerve head was calculated.
Results:
158 eyes from 79 healthy subjects (41 male) with mean age of 37.03 ± 11.27 were recruited in this study. The flow around the ONH was 1.74 ± .10 mm2. The total vascular density was 58.32±2.41. There was no difference of vascular density and flow between male and female. There was no significant difference of these parameters among different age groups (by ANOVA test; p≥0.05). The flow and vascular density in some site of peripapillary area were significantly was different based on optic disc shape. Partial posterior vitreous detachment was observed in 96 eyes (60.8%) by using OCTA. Vascular density was significantly difference in superatemporal and supranasal part in eyes with PVD versus eyes without PVD.
Conclusion:
The quantitative measurement of vascular density of optic nerve head and peripapillary area in association with flow of optic nerve head can be calculated by using OCTA as a noninvasive method. The recognition of these measurements may help in diagnosis of disorders.
