Purpose:
to describe a case of methanol optic neuropathy and the treatment results.
Methods:
case report
Results:
a 29 year-old man was consulted for severe bilateral vision loss following incidental ethanol abuse. At the first visit the vision was light perception bilaterally and the fundus examinations were unremarkable. Noticing his history and the medical records, he was treated with methyl prednisolone acetate pulse followed by oral steroids. 6 months later his vision was restored completely but the peripapillary ocular coherence tomography showed significant nerve fibers loss and the perimetries were outside normal limit too.
Conclusion:
steroid pulse could lessen the methanol-induced optic neuropathy sequels.
