Purpose:
Our purpose was to determine the effect of slant recession on esotropic or exotropic patients with abnormal AC/A ratio.
Methods:
This interventional case series was performed on 18 Esotropic( ET) and 8 exotropic( XT) patients with difference of far and near deviation more than 10 pd . Patients with history of strabismus surgery or muscle palsy or restriction were excluded . Deviation were measured after correction of refractive error with BCVA and the amount of superior and inferior recession of the determined muscles were according to Park’s table and measured deviation at far and near respectively . Success result was considered as less than 10 pd far deviation and also difference between far and near deviation less than 10 pd, 3 months post operatively.
Results:
18 ET patients with surgical age of 11.3 ± 11.4 entered the study . 8(44.4% )were male. Pre and postoperative difference of far and near deviation were 16.6±5.3 and 5.9±4.3 respectively(p<0.001). 15(83.3%) found success outcome.
8 XT patients with surgical age of 13.4±8.9 entered the study . 4(50% )were male. Pre and postoperative difference of far and near deviation were 12.9±5 and 3.4± 3.1 respectively(p<0.012). 8(100%) found success outcome
Conclusion:
Based on our results , abnormal AC/A ratio in patients with horizontal deviation can be corrected by slant recession technique . we suggest to repeat the study with more cases and compare the results with other techniques.
