Purpose:
To determine the prevalence of anisometropia and its types among 7-12 years old boy students in Asad abad, Iran.
Methods:
In this cross-sectional study, students were selected by multistage cluster sampling. Examinations include UCVA, BCVA, cycloplegic refraction, cover test and were performed for all of the participants. Anisometropia was defined as 1.00 diopter and more spherical equivalent cycloplegic refraction difference between two eyes.
Results:
Of the 1053 participants, information was gathered of 1026 students. The mean age of participants was 9.52±1.63 years old. The spherical equivalent cycloplegic refractions was 0.40±0.89 diopters. The prevalence of anisometropia was 3.11% (95% CI: 2.05-4.17), Among the anisometropic students 25% had anisomyopia, 56.2% had anisohypermetropia and 18.8% had antimetropia. Also 12.5% had amblyopia in one eye.
Conclusion:
According to influence of anisometropia on binocular vision and amblyopia it is needed to specifically attention paid to anisometropia. Also it is needed to do more research on prevalence of anisometropia in Iran.
