Purpose:
To noninvasively evaluate the retinal microvasculature in patients with Best Vitelliform Macular Dystrophy (BVMD).
Methods:
In a case series, observational study, adult human subjects with clinical, electrophysiological and imaging proven patients with BVMD were evaluated by Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA). All subjects underwent complete ophthalmic examination, including Best Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA) testing, Fluorescein Angiography, structural Optical Coherence Tomography, Electroretinography and Electrooculography. OCTA was performed in 3 mm × 3 mm centered on the fovea and parafoveal areas. OCTA images were manually segmented to verify the accuracy of the automated segmentation algorithms. According to Gass’s classification, macular findings were classified.
Results:
Two patients with BVMD were reported. One patient was in Pseudohypopyon stage in one eye with BCVA of 10/10 and Vitelleruptive stage in the other eye with BCVA of 20/32. The other patient was in CNV stage and initial BCVA of 20/60 in one eye and Vitteliform stage with BCVA of 20/25 in the other eye. OCTA shown bridging vessel in the foveal avascular zone of all four eyes regardless of the dystrophy stage. The eye with CNV showed outer retinal and choroidal cap slabs hyperreflective membranes as neovascularization.
Conclusion:
OCTA may help us in evaluation of BVMD patients and CNV membranes are well documented in the patients. A bridging vessel was obvious in both eyes of our patients.
