Purpose:
to assess the effect of size of ILM peeled area on the macular hole closure rate
Methods:
patients with full thickness idiopathic macular hole were underwent combined phacoemulsification and 3 port pars plana vitrectomy and gas tamponad. Radius of ILM peeled area were randomly choosed as either one or two optic disc diameter. Primary outcome was defined as anatomical hole closure rate.
Results:
40 eyes of 39 patients were enrolled. Radius of ILM peeled area was 1 optic disk diameter in 19 eyes and 2 optic disk diameter in 21 eyes. In macular holes with minimum linear dimension greater than 400 micron, rate of macular hole closure was 36.4% and 73.7% in 1 ODD group and 2 ODD group respectively(p value= 0.03). In macular holes with minimum linear dimension smaller than 400 micron, rate of macular hole closure was 80% and 20% in 1 ODD group and 2 ODD group respectively(p value= 0.42).
Conclusion:
Larger sizes of ILM peeled area yields better anatomical results in large macular holes.
