Purpose:
To determine the refractive and corneal parameter changes after cycloplegia with cyclopentolate using dual scheimpfluge imaging system.
Methods:
107 healthy volunteers under 40 years (mean 28 ± 5 Years) were included in this study. Complete ophthalmic examination, refraction and corneal imaging with Galileo dual scheimpfluge system were performed before and after 30 minutes of applying 1% cyclopentolate.
Results:
214 eyes (203 myopic and 11 hyperopic) were evaluated, the mean spherical equivalent was -3.36 ± 2.57 D which changed to -2.95 ± 2.63 D , after cycloplegia, the mean hyperopic shift was 0.42 D (p< 0.001). Average anterior and posterior corneal keratometry changes and changes of total corneal power were not statistically significant. Corneal thickness increased statistically significant in central and paracentral areas (3.14 and 3.03 micron respectively) (p= 0.001 & p< 0.001 respectively).
Conclusion:
: Refractive state of the eye and corneal parameters especially corneal thickness may change after cycloplegia, so it is recommended not to measure these parameters in cycloplegic state for clinical judgment, IOL power calculation and refractive surgery.
