Purpose:
To assess flow of choriocapillary and superficial and deep capillary networks in macula of healthy subjects by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).
Methods:
This descriptive study was performed in Farabi Eye Hospital. Healthy subjects after ophthalmic examination were selected and their both eyes were imaged by using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).
Results:
223 eyes from 112 healthy subjects with mean age of 36.39 ± 11.31 were recruited. Flow of superficial capillary network and deep capillary network in fovea was significant difference between male and female (1.499±0.0762 vs. 1.469±0.801 with p:0.04 and 1.571±0.091 vs. 1.528±0.104 with p:0.02 respectively) on contrary to choriocapillary level. The retinal thickness in macula in various site of macula was significantly lower in female in comparison to male. The flow decreased by aging. The significant or nearly significant reverse correlation was illustrated between flow and aging with exception of flow in choriocapillary under the macula.
Conclusion:
The quantitative measurement of flow in 3 capillary layers including superficial capillary plexus, deep capillary plexus and choriocapillary level can be obtained by using noninvasive OCTA. These measurements may help in identification of disorders.
