Purpose:
To assess the effect of intravitreal ziv-aflibercept injection on the central choroidal thickness (CCT) and its relationship with the central macular thickness (CMT) and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) changes in eyes with center-involving diabetic macular edema (DME)
Methods:
50 eyes with center involving DME were included in this prospective interventional case series. Complete eye examination, BCVA, enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI OCT), were performed at baseline followed by 3 monthly ziv-aflibercept injections. The treated eyes underwent BCVA evaluation and EDI-OCT at months 1, 2, 3 after the first injection.
Results:
Patients’ median age was 63.3 ± 5.93 years, CMT.Pre 318.98 ± 107.1 , CMT.Post 289.91 ± 92.95 , CMT.Pre 236.28 ± 46.68 , CMT.Post 245.37 ± 55.72, Change.BCVA 0.06 ± 0.25 with p- value 0.11
Conclusion:
This study showed that CCT change after the treatment of DME with intravitreal ziv-aflibercept injection do not significantly correlated with CMT reduction and vision improvement. However, further studies with larger sample size are required.
