Purpose:
|
To find the relationship between IOFB associated microbial component and endophthalmitis
|
|
Methods:
|
Patients with IOFB included in the study, smear and culture of Foreign bodies that removed during IOFB removal were sent to the laboratory.
|
|
Results:
|
From 39 IOFBs , 3 patients had positive smear and culture. one diphtheroid and two staphylococcus aureus, there were 3 endophthalmitis, one of them had positive culture.
|

Conclusion:
|
Smear and Culture of IOFB is a compromising method in choosing prophylactic antibiotics and predicting of the risk of endophthamitis.
